President & CEO Message
Catholic Health Services (CHS) encompasses some of the region’s finest health and human services agencies. With six acute care hospitals, three nursing homes, a home nursing service, hospice, a community-based agency for persons with special needs, a regional lab and an extensive network of physician practices, CHS offers a wide range of services backed by quality care and delivered by dedicated, compassionate professionals. CHS has earned a place in the top 12% of U.S. hospitals using electronic medical records, as recognized by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and has achieved Stage 6 on the HIMSS Analytics Outpatient EMR Adoption ModelSM. Also, CHS is once again the Medal of Honor title sponsor of the Suffolk County Marathon and the official provider of race medicine. Our hospitals and continuing care programs have garnered other accolades from numerous outside agencies.
St. Francis has been ranked the best hospital on Long Island, #5 in New York State and #6 in the New York metro area by U.S. News & World Report (2018–2019). For 15 consecutive years, Good Samaritan—verified as a Level II Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center—has earned the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer's Outstanding Achievement Award, which was also again presented to Mercy, with Three-Year Accreditation with Gold-Level Commendation. In 2018, for the second consecutive year, two CHS hospitals were presented with the Healthcare Association of New York State's Pinnacle Award for Quality & Patient Safety.
All six CHS hospitals have been awarded the NYS Stroke Center designation, as well as the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA) Get With The Guidelines® (GWTG) Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. St. Charles holds a place on the AHA’s Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll. St. Catherine, Good Samaritan and St. Francis received the AHA’s Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll Elite recognition, and Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll Elite Plus honors were awarded to St. Joseph. Every CHS hospital is fully accredited by The Joint Commission, with the Gold Seal of Approval®. Maryhaven Center of Hope and St. Charles Hospital are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities. All three CHS nursing homes have been awarded five stars from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for quality measures, and Our Lady of Consolation was named a NYSDOH Top-Performing Nursing Home.
All of these awards reflect the system's mission, which serves as the foundation for all we do:
We, at Catholic Health Services, humbly join together to bring Christ's healing mission and the mission of mercy of the Catholic Church expressed in Catholic health care to our communities.
It is this mission that informs and enriches our approach to patient care. Our patients know they will be treated respectfully and given the finest care using the latest technology. That is the CHS difference.
